Abstract

This scientific article defines the concept of "special knowledge" and its importance in the investigation of criminal offenses. The international experience of the use of special knowledge in law enforcement agencies in the investigation of crimes against the environment and their influence on the fight against environmental crimes in such foreign countries as the United States of America, Great Britain, Germany, and Italy are considered, and the peculiarities of such use are established.

It has been established that special knowledge is professional knowledge and skills in the field of science, technology, and art, which are necessary for solving issues that arise during the pre-trial investigation of criminal proceedings and consideration of their materials in court. They include a deep understanding of the methods and techniques used in the investigation of criminal offences, as well as expertise in various fields that can be applied to the collection, analysis and interpretation of evidence.

The main areas of activity of foreign specialists and experts in their involvement in the disclosure of criminal offenses against the environment are outlined. First of all, the importance of applying the regulatory framework and complying with international standards, stimulating the functioning of environmental departments, services, environmental protection agencies and environmental police, as well as the use of special knowledge in conducting environmental examinations and environmental monitoring is determined.

The need to involve specialists and use their knowledge to effectively identify and investigate violations of environmental laws, bring the guilty to justice, and develop a strategy for restoring natural resources and preserving the natural fund is justified.

The importance of borrowing the international experience of using special knowledge in the investigation of crimes against the environment for our country has been noted, because the importance of cooperation between countries and specialists from various fields to protect the environment and ensure compliance with environmental standards has been proven.
